The following is a post on the ALDeer.com
hunting forum by "Brody Joe," the forum's
"official" travelling correspondent, after his hunt with us
in December 2003.

At dusk, you turn onto a road that takes you off the beaten path,
surrounded by massive hardwoods...you pass a food plot where nine
deer stare toward you, then spring into the woodline...you park at a
rustic lodge and step out to the soothing sound of a nearby fast
flowing creek...you enter the lodge and are welcomed by the warmth
of a roaring fire in the fireplace and hearty handshakes...buck
mounts on the walls catch your eye, and it all begins-you've arrived
at Valley Creek Outdoors...
There aren't many times in life when you claim you've had the time
of your life, much less mean it, but the days I spent with Bronco,
Bamabug, Roddog, Marla, guests Leslie and Don, and Bucky Henson,
Mike Cutler, and Bish Rockwell at Valley Creek Outdoors certainly
qualify as 'the time of my life'. Valley Creek brought many of my
deer hunting dreams to reality-I had never seen so many deer as I
did on each hunt! The staff of Valley Creek show the warmth,
knowledge, and expertise to bring forth a world class hunting
experience. They have worked diligently to create a first-rate lodge
and an incredible habitat for trophy bucks-a hunter's
paradise...it's the entire Valley Creek experience that has me ready
to return to the lodge, again and again.
The 4,000 acres offers diverse habitat and each hunt was a new
adventure in a different, but equally promising environment-such a
rich and beautiful expanse of hardwood bottoms, new and old pine
forest, ponds, creeks, sagebrush fields, riverfront swamps-all the
variety a deer or turkey could thrive in, and do.
The land dominates in size and hunting potential, but the
hospitality and friendliness of the staff of Valley Creek looms just
as large, and are the key ingredients in making a hunting weekend a
truly memorable experience. The lodge itself has all the allure of
sporting life lodges of the past, yet offers every comfort and
convenience hoped for by the 21st Century hunter. Every meal was
fantastic and a real occasion, especially the fish fry and the best
steak I'd ever eaten, at Bronco's Birthday supper. We were very
happy campers at the table!
Our guides, Mike and Bish, carefully planned each hunt according to
wind direction and other factors, to assure our best chance at a
deer harvest-they are excellent at what they do...they know the land
and the deer movement, and thanks to accurate scouting, we saw
countless deer...they are as great an asset to Valley Creek as are
the food plots and acorn crops. It all combines to create 'the time
of my life'...

As the hunts began, I never dreamed of the deer sightings I would
experience-one afternoon, while a large group of does and yearlings
grazed on acorns, a six point emerged. He was as dark as wet pine
bark! He had an impressive rack, tall, but not meeting the 15 inch
minimum inside spread, so I only got to watch him. Back at the
lodge, I was told that his dark color may have resulted from genes
inherited from Wisconsin deer brought into Alabama in the 1930's.
They were known as 'blue deer'...
I also watched as two spikes reared up on their back haunches and
sparred like two kangaroos!
The kicker came Sat. afternoon as I sat in the shooting house in a
light rain. A massive buck emerged and his rack spread way beyond
his ears-I just knew I'd get the buck of my dreams...until he turned
his head and I could see that his right antler was completely broken
off!!! My heart sank as I watched the majestic buck strut around!

The whole Valley Creek experience will stay with me always...it was
great to meet Bamabug, a very great guy and hunter, his business
customer, Leslie, roddog and Marla, a wonderful couple who love the
hunting life, and Don Hires from Florida, and of course, Bucky,
Mike, and Bish of Valley Creek. It's always a blast when I hook up
with Bronco, and was proud I could celebrate his birthday with him.
Many, many thanks to everyone for their part in making 'the time of
my life'! My sincere thanks to Bucky Henson, Mike Cutler, and Bish
Rockwell for their hard work and dedication to providing an
incredible hunting experience, as Valley Creek offers! Everyone
should hunt this hunter's paradise in Selma! Thanks also to Valley
Creek for their sponsorship of Aldeer!
