We wrapped up a great
season (our first full one) with a great weekend. This group,
from Alabama; Florida & Georgia, was a lot of fun to have with
us. They enjoyed great hunting & great fellowship.
We enjoyed getting to know them all. They took several nice
bucks and some good, mature does.

It's been a great week. We've had two groups in since
the 21st. They've had a lot of fun and a lot of success.
Our last group of the year arrived this morning. Man,
the season has flown by. We'll be starting a new "New
Pics & News" page for the 2004-05 season sometime this
summer, after turkey season & summer planting are
complete. We will include a link to this year's page,
also. Keep an eye on the site throughout the year.
This first buck was taken this morning. A nice
eight-point.

Here is a father-son duo who had a good morning. Two
nice eight-points. The buck on the left lost part of his main
beam in a tussle earlier this year.

This is a big, heavy-beam seven-point that was taken on the
afternoon of the 24th, after a big thunderstorm moved through.

We always get a thrill seeing young hunters get their first
deer - especially when it's a nice buck. Dad's proud, too.

Another young hunter with his first buck.

These bucks were taken between the 21st and the 24th. Two
nice eight-point bookends shown here with a nice six-point (same
buck as in picture with Dad, above).

We had a good morning. These two bucks were taken within
an hour or two of each other. Molly and I had another busy
morning tracking the deer on the left. Congratulations to both
of these hunters. That's a nice eight-point on the left and a
big ol' five-point on the right. The five-point has a 16"
spread. For a five-point, he's a bruiser.

I sat in a box this
afternoon with the camcorder. Saw about 15 deer or so,
including this nice young six-point. He's a year or two away,
but he's going to be a fine buck. Give him a while on Mike's
feeding regimen.
We got some pictures for
the scrapbook back from our opening-weekend group from Key Largo,
Florida (see the big nine-point & big eight-point from November,
below). Look below at the opening weekend pics.
We have a group in from
Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina & Alabama this week.
They're seeing a lot of deer - several shooters. I think we're
going to have a good two and a half weeks to close out the
season. Also, based on video like this & like Wallace's
video from Sunday and other things we're seeing, I believe the
future looks very bright, as well.

Here are some stills from a
video that I took of a nice eight-point this afternoon. He's
just shy of being a shooter, but he's a nice buck just the same.

Here's a nice, nice ten-point that was taken today. This buck first looks like a big
eight-point. Then, you notice the double brow tines on each
side. Really good buck, really happy hunter.
The third picture is of a young hunter with his mom. He
just experienced the thrill of his first successful deer hunt.

The week started out with
cold rain & overcast skies. The skies cleared and the
mercury dropped and all of a sudden, deer everywhere.
This North Carolina group
took three trophy bucks. The first shown is a big eight point (180
lbs.) with a double main beam on the left side. His inside
spread was 19 1/2 inches. He's something.
Next is a big
six-point. This deer, despite having six points, is a definite
shooter - a really good buck (I believe his spread was about
18" or so).
The third deer is another good six-point taken by one of our
young hunters.
We were all excited about all three of these
bucks. At least two or three other trophy bucks were
seen by this group during their stay. Those bucks are still out there, of course.

"Way to go, bro..."

"That's my dad..."

Here's a great family &
friend group that we had in from South Georgia. They're a fun
bunch, but they got hit with some very bad (for deer hunting)
weather. They saw some deer & took a few does, but we're
going to get them back for some better weather & better hunting.
They were super good sports and truly deserve better.
Really, it's not always 78º and humid here in January!

Here's a nice eight-point buck taken by one of our young
hunters last night. Mike's dog, Molly, and Robbie Howard's
dog, Max, (both pictured in the bed of the pickup) tracked the deer for us this morning.
Also pictured in the last photo is Mr. Dennis Duty, creator of the (click
this link) Southern Sportsman hunting television
show. Dennis' wife, Vickie, filmed this
hunt for Dennis' show. The show can be seen these days on
several Georgia television stations. Next year, he's going
nationwide, folks.
Thanks to Dennis, Vickie and their staff for these great pics &
video stills. Oh yeah, that's Dennis' doe to Dennis'
right. The young hunter promised to give Dennis a few pointers
next time. It really was a nice doe though, Dennis.
(Really, Dennis is an entertaining, knowledgeable guy. You
need to check out his show when you get a chance).

Last weekend, we had our
first annual "ALDeer.com" hunt during which we played host
to several patrons of the ALDeer.com discussion forums. It was
a great weekend both in terms of hunting and in terms of fun &
fellowship. Click this link to see a copy of a
report on the weekend. It was posted on ALDeer.com by the forum's own "Brody
Joe." It's well worth reading...

Here are a few pictures
from this weekend. The first is yours truly holding a nice
nine-point (eight and a drop-tine) that was taken over the
weekend. After that is the hunter who took the buck. The
third picture is of that hunter, me and another of our
hunters. The deer on the left was a really good-sized deer
(about 200 lbs.) with an abnormal rack.

Just a note to let you know
that we've had a busy booking day. We still have slots left
for the last weekend in January as well as several slots left for
several December hunts. It is filling up quickly,
though. Don't wait!
Thanks to all of our great
hunters who've booked with us this year.

This young hunter took this buck this afternoon. The
young hunter made an expert shot from about 175 yards. Wow.

I sat in one of the new boxes this morning. While I was
opening the windows, these two deer walked up a lane to me.
Saw about ten deer between 5:30 and 8:30. One other rack buck
& a spike came out, too. By the way; no, our deer are not
radioactive. The pictures were taken in near darkness with a
flash.

Here are a few pictures
from opening weekend of gun season. Of the six shooter bucks
seen this weekend, these two were taken. The first is a 175
lb. nine-point. The second weighed 185 lbs. and had eight
points. Of course, many does were taken as well. We had
a great weekend with lots of fun, fellowship & great hunting.
Also pictured in the fifth photograph is Molly, Mike Cutler's Labrador. Molly had
her hand in the take - she tracked the deer through thick brush.

I sat in another box stand
today and took some good footage. You'll see six different
bucks in these shots. The best was a big 9-point (good mass
& tines & all). There were also five younger
bucks: a young 8, two good young 7's, a young 5 and an older
buck with one good side & one not so good. Got shots of
fighting, playing, eating, etc. Usually had about 12 deer in
the field - pretty typical numbers.

Comparing notes...

Some video stills from the
greenfield where the October 24th buck (shown below) was headed.

This is a nice six-point
that I filmed last night just before dark. He was on his way
to a planted green field (they're really looking nice and green
now). He's not a "mature" deer yet, and we want to
let him get bigger. In a couple of years, he's going to give
somebody a thrill.
In the field were about
fifteen deer including this buck and at least two or three other
bucks. One of the other bucks was another six point - a bit
bigger than this deer. The others were too far away and
it was too dark to tell how big they were. The video from
the field is just too dark for me to capture a good picture from it.

Went out yesterday with the
video camera and filmed this buck along with a number of does &
smaller bucks. He's a good, medium sized buck that we've seen
several times in one particular field this week.

I took the video camera to one of our box stands this
afternoon (Friday) about 5pm and filmed off and on until dark.
Saw probably 15 to 20 deer in an hour and a half or so, including
these two bucks.
The first three pics here are of a big eight-point that walked
out early - about 5:30 - and ate with a group of four other young
bucks and four or five does & yearlings.

The next three pics are of another bigger, older eight-point
with a big high rack that looks to be still developing. He
showed up with two does coming from the west right about dark.

Congratulations to Emory
Harnage. We drew Emory's name from the free-hunt hat,
yesterday. Emory is a retired fireman from Meigs,
Georgia. We look forward to seeing you, Emory!
We went to two shows this
year: The QDMA meeting in early summer at Lafayette, Louisiana
& The Georgia Wildlife Federation's Buckarama in early August at
Perry, Georgia. At the shows, we had a box & slips to fill
out for the free hunt for this year. We had about 800 to 1,000
entries.

Photographs taken this
afternoon (sorry about the poor quality - taken with a zoom lens in
poor light). It was about 7pm. There were four good bucks
feeding together in this field. Further down the page, you'll
see a different set of four bucks in some photos from August 2. This
field is not close to where the August 2 photos were taken.
I didn't know the deer in
the feeder was there until I downloaded the photos onto my
laptop. There was another buck out of the first two pictures
to the right. He shows up in the last two photos.

Photographs from one of our game cameras.
There are four bucks shown feeding together in one of these
photos. The big deer to the left in the first photo appears
several times below. We estimate his spread at 16" to
18."

Here are
some photographs of three bucks feeding in one of our new summer
food plots. The photos were taken with a standard lens from a
good distance. Hence, the quality of the photos is very
poor. All three of these deer appear to be of good, mature
size. My son video-ed these deer in the same spot a few
afternoons after I took these photos.

Hey,
Just
wanted to drop you a line and let you know about the latest
improvements.
All
12 feeders have been out for a couple of months. I am filling them
with 250 lbs of a special deer pellet that one of our local co-ops
has started to produce. It has over 20% crude digestible protein,
along with many other vitamins, chemicals, and nutrients that have
been especially blended for the best possible nutritional
impact. I have to
refill them about every 5 days. The new salt and mineral licks have
become very active.
The
rain has been killing me. For I only have about 25 acres of summer
plots planted, and I have another 20 acres to go if it ever dries up
enough.
The
dozier man finally finished with 6 new roads and 21 new plots. So we
will have 33 food plots and 4,000 acres to hunt on this year. Boy am
I excited about these new areas!
If you are interested in
booking don’t wait much longer because I am starting to run ads in
major newspapers. I am also going to run ½ page ads in Gulf Coast
Outdoors and Florida Fish and Game magazine.
Bookings are on a first come
first serve basis now so give me a call and send your deposit (50%
of your hunt) so I
can guarantee your spot.
Thanks,
Michael J. Cutler
Manager
